UNDP behind the vote-rigging scandal in Pakistan - awards lumpsum salaries for electoral Voting Officials

UNDP continues to dodge the international communities demands for transparency of its operations in Pakistan.

Kemal Dervis in direct defiance with the International Donor Community, failed to answer the questions from multiple donors (UN Member States) last week on UNDP's operations in Pakistan.

As of today UNDP has in payroll 2381 Pakistani officials working for Electoral VOting Centers throughout Pakistan. All these officials whom are also at same time under the payroll of Musharraf, are receiving a "lumpsum" of US$900 per person from UNDP Pakistan.

While UNDP is playing the role of the "Cashier", reportedly when the above electoral voting officials go to collect the sum, Musharraf's high-level advisers tell them that this is from Musharraf.

UNDP WATCH call upon OAPR, OIOS as well as on the Office of Electoral Assistance at the UN Secretariat to immediately take over UNDP's so called " Electoral Assistance programme in Pakistan" and initiate an on the ground investigation as how the funds are being used and whom are the real beneficiaries.

Why is this surprising? With the kind of guy as the head of the Governance Unit in Pakistan supported by an RC who was quoted in the media as saying nobody follows the law in Pakistan, the office is doing what comes naturally for them: using international money for personal favours, knowing full well that there is no such thing as accountability. After all, the more money they "spend" the better they will show their performance!
When will the Pakistan office be cleaned of all the deadwood?
