BREAKING NEWS: 148 UNDP staffers sign petition demanding Kemal Dervis and Ad Melkert to step down

"Dervis and Melkert must GO!!" say 148 UNDP employees in an unprecedented petition that is being circulated since this morning at UNDP Headquarters and some UNDP Field Offices.

For the first time in UNDP's history staff are taking their fate and that of their organization into their hands. Delusioned of the lack of transparency, impunity and increasing corruption inside the UNDP, they took an unprecedented step to demand immediate resignations of the two top Leaders of UNDP, Kemal Dervis and Ad Melkert.

"We believe that Kemal and Ad can no longer lead UNDP effectively," said the petition, which is being signed by many staffers and is expected to reach UN Secretary General - Ban Ki Moon and the President of General Assembly - Srgjan Kerim by early next week.

"They have lost the trust and respect of many UNDP staff at all levels, developed tense relations with many member states (ie: G77, Sweden, Holland, United States, etc), damaged their own credibility on issues related to Ethics, Transparency and Accountability and UN System of Justice -- and alienated some key Donors (US and Sweden) at a time when their support is essential for achieving UNDP's goals to help the poor."

UNDP Watch call upon all UNDP Staff to join this petition and make our voice are heard. We need the Member States to join this petition as well, and join UNDP Staff in addressing our concerns and those of the poor around the world whom are lacking of susbtantial and quality support from UNDP at the moment. Cleaning UNDP now is in the interest of the Member States, therefore please join !

Kemal Dervis and Ad Melkert Must GO !!!!!!!

Excellent work and an astonishing participation when considering the vindictiveness of these crooks.

There is strength in numbers - keep this story as a 'sticky' on top of the page for some days to make sure it gets a lot of visibility.

May god bless you guys for having the guts to do this. Cleaning should start from the top, and should include also: Akiko, Darshak, Bruce, Gettu, and David Lockwood and David Morrison, and Khoury.

Don't forget SSAs, we are working for years in difficult conditions without being considered eventhou most of us cover CORE functions.

Anonymous said...

IAPSO will support you guys, we have been marginalized and suffered for many years from UNDP leadership.

Merci for Burundi story. Just to let you know that UNDP Watch should not trust Samaras, he's about to travel here with some from Africa Bureau to cover up the story. Just for your information the Belgium mission here was informed about your story, and they supported it. Its truth. Belgium mission doesn't even want to cooperate with us anymore. Our office leadership including RR, DRR should change if UNDP want to change perception in the ground.

Morrison should go now. He's been caught lying hundreds of times!!!!

Anonymous said...

samaras is pro dervis - don't trust him!!

Anonymous said...

while you're initiative is applausible, UNDP watch should not rely on Staff Council they are people without spine...they're useless.

I loved your piece on "where is NetAid money" I worked for NetAid and can confirm that is totally true, ours was a setup to launch CISCO products around the world. David Morrison would unleash his anger on every staff if we would forget to include or mention Cisco in our communications to any CO.
I'm convinced that MMB and Morrison have approfited millions from Cisco with NetAid.
shame shame on UNDP

Undp Watch should look into how much Cisco has been awarded in the past 10 years from Undp.

Hundreds of million of dollars mostly in Waivers of Competitive Bids.

Anonymous said...

cisco is playing with UNDP and is using us to make sure we distribute their routers and force Governments to accept only cisco products.

UNDP is creating an unfair interdependence of our counterparts on Cisco products helping them to expand for free.

Anonymous said...

check last 15 submissions to ACP from oist, all Cisco!!!! Conflict anyone????

Anonymous said...

UNDP is behaving as Cisco's PR and Distributor in most of countries.

Anonymous said...

dervis and melkert should explain why we need cisco and why we are not allowed to subcontract local companies whose products might not be as qualitative as cisco but we would help generate emliyment should we support local entities.
this way instead of helping the poor we are creating a dependency on western northern products, thus building a stronger devide between north and south.

CISCO as a company has never been very ethical in its deals, and neither have a number of UNDP staff -- some of our very own colleagues -- who have been involved with CISCO related activities on UNDP projects...

agree with first commentator from Country Office: Please add
Bruce Jenks
Ligia Elizondo
Gettu
David Morrison
Darksh Shah
Peri Johnson & Akiko

Nora Lustig hired in April 2006 as the Director of the Poverty Group of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) also went to Washington DC. She is Shapiro Visiting Professor of International Affairs, Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University as of September 2007

This is the reason why Lustig "decamped" . Another Green card dilemma according to InterCity Press of last yr;

http://www.innercitypress.com/undp030107.html

"Nora Lustig has decided not to seek the renewal of her contract to continue as Director of the Poverty Group in UNDP’s Bureau for Development Policy because of the implications it would have for her visa status in the United States. Current regulations do not allow regular UN staff to keep their US permanent resident status. After careful consideration, Ms. Lustig concluded that renouncing her residence status was not in her family’s best interest. Her current contract will expire on 29 March."
