UNITED NATIONS, April 13 (NNN-MAP) — United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has recommended to the Security Council the extension of the mandate of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) for a further period of one year until April 30, 2011.
The UN chief recommended, in a report released here last Wednesday, that the mandate of the 19-year old MINURSO “remain in place for another year, through April 30, 2011″.
Ban also recommended to the Security Council to reiterate its call upon the parties to negotiate “in good faith and without preconditions,” under the auspices of his Personal Envoy, and “to show the political will required to enter into substantive discussions and ensure the success of the negotiations”.
